The Tin Fish Club - Survivors of Sunken Ships

Cadet/Midshipman Survivors

Despite the loss of well over a hundred Cadet/Midshipmen many more survived having their ships sunk. Several survived the loss of two or more ships. With grim wartime humor the survivors called themselves the "Tin Fish Club" after the slang term for a torpedo. Some Cadet/Midshipmen received the Mariner's Medal for wounds received in the attack on their ship, but far fewer than may be thought. One Cadet/Midshipman, John H. Scruggs, received the Purple Heart medal for his wounds by order of General Dwight D. Eisenhower.
