The men listed in this section were enrolled in the U.S. Maritime
Commission Cadet Corps (USMCCC) between 1937 and 1941 or served as what was known as a "Company Cadet" that was directly appointed to that position by a shipping company aboard their vessels.
Many were graduates of state maritime academies, the largest number of which were from the Pennsylvania Nautical School. The Cadets and Staff were relocated to Kings Point in March 1942 when the U.S. Maritime Commission closed the school. However, those that desired to do so transferred back to the Pennsylvania Nautical School when the State of Pennsylvania reopened the school in September 1942.
Several served as Naval Officers, while one was serving in the Army Air Corps at the time of his death. Most of the others served as merchant ship officers or in similar positions. As with the Kings Point alumni, these men died not only in combat and combat related incidents but in accidents and misadventures both at sea and ashore. One died when the Japanese ship he was aboard as a Prisoner of War was torpedoed by an allied submarine. All served their country in its time of need and are honored for their sacrifice.
